December builds you up. It starts getting black and cold; the lights come out and it's magical. You are 5. Especially at night in the cool weather. Especially this year.
Post-Christmas though, with the weather spiraling into the 70's, I feel flat, bored, listless, empty. Of course, that mystical ignorance of childhood is there to reminisce over. And, the fact that you basically picked out all your presents this year, a sign of a grown up, without mystery.
Sometimes 18 is nonchalant. Sometimes its not old enough. Sometimes its frightening in how old it seems to be.
I like my presents this year though:
Movies- Donnie Darko (director's cut), Pulp Fiction, Fargo, The Godfather Trilogy, and Batman Begins
Books- The Picture of Dorian Grey (plus collected plays of Oscar Wilde), White Oleander by Janet Fitch, Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
An iPod, and more importantly, an iPod transmitter so I CAN PLAY MUSIC IN MY CAR. Thanks to Scott for installing it.
