quick bit of background...
since the dawn of my time at the library, one name has always caused me to cringe, to quake in both fear and loathing... MATTHEW OLDHAVER. this young lad has from his early years wreaked havoc on the minds of library staff with his arrogant, self-centred, bossy, pushy, demanding ways. he orders adults around as though he has the right.
SCENE: Library, 10:15 a.m.
M.O. enters front doors and drops a book into the book drop, right after P.B. quite obviously has pulled the bin out from beneath the hole, so that the book lands on the floor and she has to crawl under the counter to retrieve it.
M.O. strides to check-out side of counter. P.B. looks over her shoulder as she removes the last of the books from the bin, noting M.O.'s presence. She goes to pull out the last couple of items from the bin, when M.O. starts knocking on the counter.
P.B: Just give me one second, okay?
P.B. slams the books on the counter and goes to check-out side.
P.B: You really like knocking on the counter, don't you?
M.O: Just tryin' to get your attention.
P.B: Yeah, well, I already saw you there. When you do that, we just want to make you wait even longer.
M.O: And risk losing your reputation? I don't think so.
P.B: We don't have to worry about our reputations here.
P.B. gives him a meaningful stern look before returning victoriously to checking in books.
ok, so maybe it was a small victory. but we NEVER get to tell off the people who annoy us. i just decided that mr oldhaver is an inconsequential pipsqueak and that i don't really care if i say something that upsets him. what's he going to do? everyone is already kind of gunning for him anyway... :P
