I figured I would write a bit on the same subject that everyone else from the Midwest is. So someone shot Dr. Tiller (Doctor who does late term abortions; target of pro-life groups, etc.) dead in front of his CHURCH after the service was completed, in front of his FAMILY. Normally, I'd be horribly opinionated one way or the other, but instead I'm going to focus on the jackass that pulled the trigger. For decades, pro-life groups have been after Tiller to try to shut down his practice. They've followed legal means (propaganda, legal steps, etc.) to meet their ends. I suppose except for the time Tiller's clinic was burned down, or he was shot through both arms. Other than that, there hasn't been any... unethical actions taken against him.
So this douche bag walks up and fires 7 rounds at the almost 80-year old man and kills him. Aside from this guy being a horrible shot, which is a sin in the Midwest by almost all accounts, he acted outside of what was considered "legitimate" by the organization he sided with.
First off, you cannot walk on a moral high ground if you use immoral tactics to achieve your means. This obviously translates, you can't stop someone you consider a murderer that operates within the law by MURDERING him OUTSIDE of the law. This makes you WORSE than him from a legal standpoint. Secondly, and probably more important, considering who we're talking about, if we're talking about religion, it is not your place to take the life of another in anger, or because you think he is a sinner. The sinner will get theirs after god has decided it is their time to leave the earth, and then they will be judged as every other person is. Thinking that god is talking to you, and somehow condones murder for you and you alone, and you thinking that there is nothing morally wrong with what you're about to do makes you a sociopath.
Now, I don't care what side of the fence you are on over this issue, but it is a fact that society needs people like Tiller that provide late term abortions. There are several complications where the fetus will outright kill the mother if it is not aborted. As in, will burst tubes, cause massive bleed out, and cause the death of both the mother and fetus. As in, there is no way to get around the complication other than to terminate the fetus.
In closing, people who do things like this disgust me. Not because we're talking about abortion here. Not because we're talking about first degree murder. Because we're talking about a person that was incapable of defeating his opponent in the mental arena, and instead, turned to the oldest, most primitive response that humans are capable of, and sought out to murder his intellectual superior. There is no worse form of defeat than to be reduced to the level of a cro-magnon man, and succumb to your inadequacies. There is no way to ever return to the level of a human after a decline of that level.
