See, I like Ron. He's not perfect. Neither is Harry. Both have reasons for feeling the way that they do about something, and they just handle it differently. Harry never asked to be famous, yet he is, he's Dumbledore's favorite, and also recieved two of the best broomsticks as gifts. I don't see how he's that much different from Ron, who gets good things "without earning them."
Harry first identified with Ron because they were both poor (even though Harry recognized that he had an inheritance). Sure, Ron is a bit lazy now, but I think he's starting to understand that he has to work.
I had good points to bring up, but lunch sounds better at the moment. ^_~
Harry and Ron both treated Parvati and Padma poorly.
I'm not trying to debate or anything. Sorry if I came off that way.
I know Harry deserves to have good things to happen to him and stuff- I LOVE Harry. I just think he gets a lot just because of who he is. Yes, I know he feels pride in earning what he has (in regards to your example of the Quidditch matches, he's actually GOOD at something! Who knew?? etc...)
But maybe Ron deserves a little bit, too. Yes, he should earn what he wants. I just think he should get a little credit, too.
Harry didn't ask to be a TWT champion, yet he worked hard to excel.
Depends on which task your talking about. If I remember correctly Hermione badgered him for weeks to try and figure out how to open that egg and he just brushed her off. He didn't actually doing about until the night before and even then he was working off information Cedric gave him. Then he didn't have time to figure out the riddule. And never did. If it hadn't been for Dobby giving him the gillyweed he would have been totally unprepared. But we can take comfort that he did in fact come in last- sort of.
*sighs* I really should take my own advice and quit digging myself deeper.
Admittedly my memory was a bit rusty when I posted that first comment so I decided to go back and reread that part. The time frame might have been a little off. Still, this is all Harry's. And I mean, it is this just once.... The only other time I can possibly think of Harry not trying hard at something he knows is important was the whole legimency thingy with Snape and that was a tad bit more comlpicated. And I don't mean to sound inflamatory...but why does Harry get the Ron is bad influence excuse. And then I can't make excuses for Ron without being called a Ron aplogist? Why does Harry get the JKR needed to show him in this light agruement? But Ron isn't given the same privelage? *shrugs
( ... )
Sure, Ron is a bit lazy now, but I think he's starting to understand that he has to work.
I hope you're right.
Yes, both boys are imperfect. For whatever reasons I have a hard time sympathizing with Ron's plight than I do Harry's. I feel that, through his actions or inaction, Ron brings alot of his woe upon himself.
