Obama's Inauguration

Jan 20, 2009 11:47

I'm watching Obama's inauguration right now, witnessing history as people are saying. This is the first time I've watched one. I don't think the importance of this has hit me yet. Julia is in DC right now watching it live. Mom was saying that she remembers watching Nixon's inauguration, and she can't believe all of the political changes that have happened since then.

The oath itself was pretty quick, faster than I expected. And then came his speech. It was good, really promising. I am happy for this new presidency, but am a little sad about how people got pissed off with Bush. Everyone was all "good riddance" and "let's get him the hell away from office" which seemed too harsh to me. Yes, Bush messed up and made a lot of people unhappy, but he was a representation of a whole Cabinet of mistakes, not just himself. And we voted for him TWICE so people need to suck up the fact that they put him in office. I think the transition to a new presidency shouldn't bear the attitude of "Finally, a president that won't fuck up! This is real change!" Rather, Bush had his turn, made some mistakes, and now we have a new president. Yes, policy will change drastically, but people shouldn't be expecting for an immediate economic boom and happiness, peace and love. People need to stay grounded through this.

I voted for Obama and I'm happy he's the first black president. I think he will do a good job, but let's stay realistic people!
