I was a marine captain back home so I'm used to training troops at least a little.

An anti-sword weapon? I'm familiar with fencing, my mother often practices that sport and excels on it. How effective is that anti-sword weapon? There are many types of swords after all, aren't they?

Correct there are. It's good against anything except pretty much claymores. I'm usually up against katanas, sabers, and cutlasses, and it works great against all of them. It's not something you should depend on alone for fighting, [But watch him cry without it...] but it's good for a weapon.

Right, the object of a jitte is to arrest someone without maiming them. It'll incapacitate and possibly hurt, but not kill. So it's a favorite among police officers often.
And I'm sure I've trained idiots even less suited than you are how to run a ship, you don't need experience as long as you're willing to learn.
