Some two or three weeks earlier than expected, I got a letter from the Foreign Service Exam review board. Yes, I qualify for the privilege of taking the oral exam. Registration is next month; I'll take the test in May or June. The test itself is a day-long event including an interview, a group exercise and a case management writing exercise, all designed to evaluate my possession (or lack thereof) of the 13 qualities of a successful Foreign Service Officer. If you're interested in the details, you can find them
here. Basically, this is the single most intimidating test I will probably ever take. Freaking out commences - now. Fortunately I have 2-4 months to prep for the thing and gather some pearls of wisdom from my classmates who have already made it through.
