Junkstock III

Junkstock is a free, family-friendly event that's held every summer in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. This year, it's taking place on Saturday, July 23, from approximately noon to 3 p.m. in Golden Gate Park's Lindley Meadow.

The Junkstock Mission: No matter how much money or how much musical training you have, you can be a musician. We strive to shatter the myth that creating music is an elite pursuit; whether you play a plastic bucket or a thousand dollar guitar, expressing yourself and your soul through sound is what it's all about. We want all who attend Junkstock to leave empowered by the fact that they can play an instrument, whether it’s a voice, a guitar or a tuna can.

The event features an acoustic stage with great performers who encompass the vision that instruments, composition and performance come from, sometimes, unexpected places. Also included in the day are free workshops which teach you to make your make items from your recycling bin as well as household and hardware store items sing (or clank whatever the case may be)!

Bring blankets and low chairs to sit on, food, beverages, instruments, and anything you can bang on or shake to make music.

Photos from the Junkstock I and II can be found here.

Below is a snippet of the all-band jam which closed out the first Junkstock in 2009. (Which reminds me, I still need to learn how to do the cup dance.)
