Many people may not know this, but John Stevenson, one of the co-owners of Club 23 West, passed away on June 1st. I'd known and worked as a promoter and DJ with John for almost 15 years on many nights at the venue, including of the course the last ten with Sin City, and for several years further at more nights prior to the start of Sin. John's place in Vancouver's nightlife history goes back far deeper than just 23 West, as he and Don, his surviving business partner of 34 years, started and operated many of Vancouver's first gay clubs, and have provided homes for gay, lesbian, transexual, fetish and alternative communities since the 60's and 70's. Xtra West has run a great article commemorating John .... I encourage everyone to check it out and raise a glass in his memory!
