It's amazing how much time I have to think while sitting in that math class, which, can be good and bad I guess.
Today, among other things, I was noticing the male to female ratio in that class.... of 49 students, there are 9 males. That's 18%. (Yes, I figured this all out in class.) I think the ratio was actually worse in the previous 6 week session--there were like 3 guys, if I remember correctly. Furthermore, in MY math classes, I think out of the class there were about 5 women...and from what I hear, there is very rarely a woman in the calculus classes.
I was thinking that, it seems as though women may be wired differently, and statistically have a harder time with the math/science type classes. Immediately after thinking this, I sprawled into a whole new--but related--topic:
Why is it that a statement like the above upset so many people in our society? I by no means think that all women are unintelligent, or even that all women are bad at math/science. I know some very smart women, in math/science and otherwise. ..I'm just considering a statistic. ...Maybe the missing ability to understand this merely as a statistic is a case in point?
Why is no one up? :P
