It's functionally impossible for them to really ever get along. Mal's made up of unavoidable mishaps and plans that never quite go according to plan. Tieria has a certain gauge for how far a mission can drift from its original objective before his body can no longer recalibrate their route. To the Meister, the world around him exists on a narrow path with success or failure lined up neatly on either say. That kind of line doesn't exist for Mal- and if it did, it ain't like he would've followed it anyway

They notice him mid third drink at Swayze's, when Lockon steps into the backroom to fetch something with Setsuna (Simca and Spitfire elbow each other about that until their sides purple). There's Nathan Petrelli in the corner, sloshing a drink all over the counter. It's his beard that's the focal point of their staring anyway. Simca and Spitfire take long, identical sips from their sangria, weighing over his disheveled appearance
