Wild Tigers I Have Known - I've been interested in seeing this one for ages. I figured it wouldn't make it into the libraries. It is... controversial. Or (sigh) I suppose it is controversial, when I try to think like regular society, using rules of normality. 'People wouldn't approve.' I'm just about so goddamned over thinking or worrying about such things. Normal society is bunkum. Yes, I liked this movie. A lot, in fact. It is kind of abstract but kind of relentlessly straightforward. The young guy who's the center of this film, Logan, might be gay. He might be transgendered. He might, in fact, be none of these things. It is safe to say he's an outcast at his school. It's safe to say he has problems relating to his mom (played by Fairuza Balk). I love Fairuza Balk. I loved Logan. I love director Cam Archer for making this. And I had to think about what the ending 'means' for several days, when I think I finally got it... at least what I think it means, and then I loved that, too.
Minnie and Moskowitz - I'm increasingly of the belief that it was good that I waited for John Cassavetes's movies to be released seperately, rather than buying his box set. Make no mistake- The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie ISSSZZZzzz in my Top movies of all time. BUT the other Cassavetes movies I have seen have been... well... Opening Night was quite good, actually. Maybe great, even. A Woman Under The Influence was... not really my favorite. It is something else, but... mmm, a bit peculiar. Which brings me to Minnie and Moskowitz. You have JC regulars Seymour Casell and Gina Rowlands starring. Okay. So. This film is... how can I... everyone in it is BATSHIT insane. They all just yell and yell and hit and broadcast neuroses of a nature that will kill your brain. Maybe it is supposed to be a study in insanity but... I feel like Cassavetes wrote the script on salvia. That's the impression I get after watching several YouTube videos of salvia-users, anyway. This movie is for people who think guests on Maury Povich and Jerry Springer act too sane and well-adjusted.
A Piece Of The Action - This one I got at the library. It is the 3rd in the 1970s series of films with Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier. I saw Let's Do It Again when I was a child, quite loved it, so figured why not try this one out? Like that film, it stars Cosby and Poitier as big-time hustlers... or big-money hustlas, if you want. But a retiring detective, played by James Earl Jones, knows about some of their biggest crimes and plans to... make things a little interesting for them, set them up in a totally different hustle than they bargained for... the film was directed by Poitier, too. I dug this film. It is a fairly conventional movie, but after starting slow it delivers interesting perspectives that... I don't want to spoil. And it makes me want to rent Let's Do It Again, for sure (which has some good JJ Walker comedy).
I've started writing about my life lately, and edited, and re-edited. I dunno. I don't want to be negative, and throw around words like 'depressed.' But... lately, this 'economic slowdown' thing has affected me, friends, family, acquaintances. I'm doin okay right this minute, but things have been tough lately, more of uncertainty than lack of money or luxuries. I'd rather write less than more about it right now. I say to all that consider themselves a real friend of mine right now- I need you all, I'm grateful for you all..
