so this weekend was pretty crazy. i started off saturday by meeting this kid liam from england, who i ended up spending most of the weekend with. he ended up working our merch booth on sunday. its funny, we were so concerned with who was gonna run our merch all week, and wether or not we could trust them. we let a total stranger from another country handle all our affairs this weekend. there couldn't have been a better choice.
the bands on saturday were hit or miss. motion city was rad, so was thursday. fall out boy...ill never speak an ill word of their live show ever again. hellogoodybye's shit crapped out on them, so they didn't have all their electronic stuff working.
sunday was absolutely incredible. we got there at 8 am to set up our gear and our merch. we spent the rest of the morning stealing posters from shitty bands that were playing that day and using them as our own promo material. before our set, we "worked the line" promoing for our slot. at one point, i remember distinctly seeing matt geroni on top of some kids shoulders screaming something about how every other band but awful waffle hates you, and "all the bands playing today were given a puppy..awful waffle kept their puppy alive...you make the call". add that to the fact that were now pete wentz's favorite band, as well as bigger than jesus and that equals the fact that we had the biggest crowd that stage saw all weekend. if you were there, and saw how big that area was, our crowd went past the entrance and back to the port a pottys. it doesn't seem like much, but there had to be about 350-400 people, if not more. i kept checking the local stage all weekend to check how the other bands were doing, and none of them had nearly as big of a crowd as we had. the next biggest crowd i saw was about a quarter of our crowd. its absolutely beyond me how we got that many people to watch our set. i seriously only expected maybe about 30 or 40 kids there, max. holy shit was i wrong.
after that set, there were a bunch of kids coming up to me that i never met that said they knew me, and talking to me. at least one new person every hour. kids were coming and asking for my picture with them, and just weird shit like that. i mean, its flattering i guess, but i don't like to be put in situations where i can be recognized. thats jensen's job. he was the one that the girls were running up to, kissing, and running away, and signing boobs all day. haha, no lie. better him than me, i say.
i got to see some people i haven't seen in a while, so that was really rad. i didn't really get to see many sets yesterday that i was stoked about till later on. method man was pretty rad, but i think i needed to be closer to get really into it. i was asked to leave when moneen played and i watched from backstage. strike anywhere can't work on large stages. say anything wasn't that good, ive seen them better. panic! had as big of a crowd as fall out boy the night before. i didn't bother staying, but i heard some girl had a seizure (aka: a panic at the disco...har har har...). afi was cool for the first couple songs i stayed for. aiden still sucks. underoath was lame. poison the well was a severe disappointment. so was state radio. men women and children should be one of your favorite bands. i don't get how circa survive is that big.
saves the day...fucking amazing. well worth the wait to see. however, the kids that were vaulting themselves trying to crowd surf were real fucking assholes. never again will i get involved with festival crowds. kids are too stupid and they don't realize how selfish crowd surfing is to begin with. it was made up by the fact that they played holly hox though.
easily, the biggest highlight of the weekend was that i got to watch lifetime from the side of the stage. ill post the picture i took later, but you can distinctly see so many people in bands that were playing today, just standing there, and im right in the thick of things. taking back sundays drummer was standing right next to me at one point, as was chris from saves the day. i really wanted to just go up to him and say hi, and thank him for making music, but i just couldn't do it. him and ari from lifetime were the two people that i just can't get over the whole star struck thing with. at one point, i was with shane, and chris conley walked by me, and shane asked me if i was going to say hi to him, and i turned back to him and was just like, "what are you supposed to say to the person that completely changed the way you see the world today?" and that was about the extent of our conversation.
backstage was lame. there really wasn't much of one. also, adam from taking back sunday seemed like a really whiny guy.
and captured! by robots was awesome. im now married to 3 different people.
very easily one of the better weekends ive had in a long time.
