Carpool / Child Care Trade

May 21, 2012 20:04

I had today off from work and was really enjoying it. It got me thinking of ways that I can save enough money so I can someday work part time or quit my job forever. In addition to "unplugging the toaster to save energy costs" and "washing my car at home instead of going through the car wash" I thought maybe ridesharing would be a good way to save money. So, look under the first cut if you're interested.

Another thing I was thinking of was to trade something that I do (babysitting) for things that I want or need. Look under the other cut for that.

I live on lower Capitol Hill (Denny and Melrose-ish) and commute to White Center five days a week. Generally I need to be at work by 8:30am and take I-5/509 to get there. I go through Georgetown between I-5 and 509.

I could potentially adjust my schedule so that I left a little earlier or a little later. I could also rideshare three days a week, or whatever worked. Or, we could start with less days, see if it worked, and then increase based on that.

I have a fully insured 2008 Malibu that is very reliable. I don't smoke. I don't care if you smoke, just don't smoke in my car. You would absolutely have to be punctual based on our decided time. I am reliable and have references to vouch for my reliability and timeliness.

Afternoons would probably not work out so well for ridesharing or carpooling since my schedule is all over the place in the afternoons. We could always try, though.

I did post an ad on rideshareonline.com, so that's nice. If you'd like to suggest another website, that might be good too. I should probably try Craigslist as well, but it seems like all the rideshare stuff on there is for one time trips.

I have a full time job, but I also babysit on the side. I currently exchange child care for acupunture and chiropractic care, so I'm wondering if maybe I can trade for other things. (Random, I know, but worth a shot!)

Here are things that I need/want that I would be willing to trade child care for:
1. Occassional Handyman Services (like fixing the fan in my bathroom, sealing the grout in my bathtub, etc.)
2. Hardwood Floor Installation
3. Vitamins (I don't know, maybe you get a good deal on them or something? I spent way too much money on Vitamins and Supplements)
4. Meals (I'm thinking along the lines of you run one of those meal services for people with special diets. Then I don't have to worry about packing lunch for work)
5. Professional Manicures
6. Amazon Gift Cards (Maybe you get them at a discounted rate?)
7. A Boyfriend (If you get me a boyfriend that I date for over six months I'll reward you with ten hours of babysitting or something. Negotiable.)
8. House Cleaning (Like deep cleaning. I'm an awesome organizer but a shitty cleaner.)
9. Car Detailing (see #8)
10. Custom Sewing (I like dresses.)

Yes, I realize that this is some really random ass shit, but what the hell. I just watched my neighbors kid for a bunch of date nights in exchange for a flat screen TV.

I generally charge $15-$20 an hour (Yes, I know that when you were a kid you only got paid fifty cents an hour)
I have lots and lots of excellent references and could give you a bunch of them.
I am first aid and CPR certified.
I have an AAS in Early Childhood Education.
I have experience with infants through young teenagers.
I usually need to be booked in advance.

Also--kind of unrelated--I am having a babysitting networking event on June 2nd. I have invited everyone I know with kids and all the babysitters I know. If you want to come, get at me.

Kindly flag me or delete this post if it doesn't fit within the guidelines. (I did read them because I'm not really into breaking rules, but still.) Also, I guess you should probably sark me.
