First Kickboxing Class

Mar 25, 2013 21:32

I made a less than triumphant return to the world of martial arts tonight. After two years of aikido and two months of being a couch potato, I slogged through the rain and tried out a kickboxing class down the street.

It was odd; I spent the first 26 minutes loathing every moment, but the following 40 were pretty fun. I feel like the class was misrepresented to me by the instructor I spoke to last week; it was much less kickboxing and more jazzersize/light weights. Which are things I strongly dislike. Also pushups and jumping jacks. And borrowing studio gloves. Definitely buying my own gloves if I go back. Ew.

But it's close by, the instructor is nice, and while it;s not a social setting, I didn't get any nasty vibes from anyone. So while I hated about 1/3, it's definitely a way to get into shape. Maybe if they offer 10 class passes I'll spring for one of those and re-evaluate in a month or two.
