Barefoot Hiking

May 19, 2012 21:08

I've been reading abut barefoot hiking and running for a little over a year now. It sounded rather attractive since I tend to blister horribly in all shoes. I finally got off my butt and tried it today, and it was pretty fantastic. Folks, they're not joking when they say it works a different muscle group than moving in padded shoes: I feel it in my thighs, calves, even my arms (which is kinda weird). I'm also glad I brought along a pair of sandals for pavement and gravel, it helped me get past a couple rough spots while I was adjusting, and let me hike much longer than I might have otherwise.

The worst part was the constant fear of stepping on a millipede. They were everywhere. Yuck.
