Change was something that Hinamori Momo never did well with; many examples of such had been displayed throughout her lifetime, although most of them have been displayed within the past three years. Denial was a strong trait that she had held close to her heart, believing anything that could help her continue to convince herself that Aizen Sousuke was indeed the man that she had admired and loved for all those years ( ... )

When she started moving, he looked down, half-afraid of what he'd see. (Afraid, he told himself. Not just half-afraid.) He didn't know how to handle this, nor did he know how much of Hinamori - the old Hinamori - was still there. He supposed he should take what he could get: Hinamori had always been loyal to a fault. That, at least, had never been corrupted. Exploited, perhaps, but never corrupted.

His hand fell from her hand to rest lightly on her shoulder. "Yes?" His voice was somewhat quiet, but strong. He would be there; he'd promised, but he couldn't help the thrill of apprehension, of fear. He wasn't sure if he wanted to know what she'd say next; there were so many things she could say, and not many of them were things he'd actually want to hear.

Turning her head again so she could rest against his lap again, she closed her eyes upon the feeling of the world spinning around her. Her head was a throbbing mess. She wasn’t sure if it was from the sobbing or how her life did a 180 degree change in the matter of five minutes… but nevertheless, she had a pounding headache.

It was a relief to her that Tobiume was still in her own quarters or else she probably would’ve been giving Momo an earful as well. Either that or she would’ve remained silent around her since it did deal with Aizen Sousuke. Tobiume never did like the man or any mentioning of him… Momo hated to admit that she should’ve trusted her zanpakutou quite a long time ago.

She also hated to admit that she should have trusted her friends quite a long time ago as well. Tightening her hold on her best friend, she knew how thankful she was that he was still there for her.

“Yesterday really happened, didn’t it…” she said softly, almost trying to convince herself that it was just a bad dream.

He'd always hated it when she cried; used to be, she could look up at him with watery eyes and he'd jump make things right. He never wanted to be the one to make her cry, and he'd always tried to be the one to fix it when she did. This time, though, was different; he had had a hand in her breakdown. He'd stared at her tears and made them worse.

But she'd needed it. The guilt over it was enough to make him stay right where he was and let her cling for as long as she needed. He wasn't going to let her down again. Not ever again.

"Would you even be here if it hadn't?" he asked her. She'd never cling to him, never spend any time with him, if her entire world hadn't fell apart. Part of him was wounded by that; she hadn't treated her friends like friends for a very long time.

It was an honest question that he ahd asked her, but it was probably because he already knew the answer. Well, the honest answer. She wanted to say that she would be there regardless if Aizen Sousuke broke her illusion of perfection or not… yet couldn’t. She had fed her best friend so many lies over the past few months, why would she just add another one into the mix? No, he was there to help her. It was time to be honest with him from now on.

She couldn’t say it out loud though, so instead she closed her eyes and sighed. How long would it have been before she saw him again if he didn’t take her to her own safety? She wanted to say that she would go visit him, but was so afraid that it would end in more lies and more walking on eggshells. Especially when it came to Ichimaru-taichou. Or… rather… Ichimaru Gin. He no longer should be referred to as ‘taichou’ either. He had not been part of the Gotei 13 for several years now… therefore, he no longer was a captain ( ... )
