Characters: Mashiro, Rose When: Early morning Where: A Fourth Division infirmary Rating: PG Summary: Mashiro feels really bad about beating on Rose, so she needs to apologize
Her fingers were cold, he noticed, but he gave her hand a squeeze anyway. She looked so unhappy, he'd almost forgotten that just hours ago she'd kneed him in the jaw and then kicked him in the head. Really, he was just a bit fickle, but taking life too seriously gave one wrinkles.
"No, you aren't," he agreed to her denial of crying, but the trails on her cheeks showed that she had been, maybe even recently. And again, despite her injuring him, he felt guilty. Mashiro was such a mercurial creature, and when she was in her childish state, how could anyone resist just being nice to her? "Don't fret, it's just a scratch. We were both getting a little overly emotional there, and you just did what you thought was right, no?"
Her question, however, was not so easily assuaged. Rose didn't want to be here, not in any way, but he feared greatly that, should he say he was indeed going to leave, Mashiro would be devastated. She'd meekly agree that he was free to go, he assumed, but be sad for a good long time after.
"I'll think about it," he said, unable to come to a committal answer, "I won't go immediately, in any case. Now that I'm here, I should see Kensei and Lisa, and maybe some of the others that are still around. Maybe even my old division, just for the fun of it."
