Momo stared at Renji’s desk. He was, in the way of Renji, acting mighty suspicious. She couldn’t really put her finger on what he was doing that had her on edge, but she wasn’t imagining things. She knew. She had been watching him out of the corner of her eye for the last half hour - after she had smiled and chatted about the sunshine and opened the divider between their offices - and he was definitely up to something. Before that she had observed him for two days, just to make sure. There was no sense in bringing up the subject until she had her case built. He would deny it. She would scowl and nothing would be accomplished unless she made him feel guilty with tears or grumpy faces and that could only work so many times before he became immune. She wasn’t ready to dig into a new tactic yet so she had observed his antics for the last few days. Quietly. Patiently.
Momo was ready for that chat. For the most part, anyway.
She finalized the last few bits of paperwork that she had on her desk and tapped her fingers against the wood for a moment. She was fairly certain that it had to do with the post on the network a week or so ago. He hadn’t quite been the same since Hitsugaya-kun had gone off on his little side-quest and while she had spent most of the time he had been gone worrying about him, she had noticed that Renji was upset about the whole thing. Nothing had been said but she had noticed.
She had mistakenly thought that he had been worried about Hitsugaya, but now that they were back in the office and he was back in his office he was still off.Momo took a moment to tidy up her workspace before shifting her chair in his direction. One thing she appreciated about the vice-captains desks was that you certainly did not have to yell to be heard when you talked to your captain.
“What are you up to?” was a perfectly logical way to start the conversation. He was up to something and she wanted to know what it was. There was no sense in beating around the bush.
