Summary: Shunsui wants a new drinking partner in case Ukitake pops it is making sure Kira can handle his alcohol.
This might work out to his advantage. It might. That was what Kira repeated to himself on the way to the Eighth. First of all, Ise-fukutaichou frightened him -- she was all business and glares, and really, if there was anyone that he didn't want to get on the wrong side of, she was it. Going drinking with Kyouraku-taichou really was frightening enough without the threat of getting himself on her bad side.
On the other hand, it could be to his advantage. He'd distanced himself from the other captains by way of work, and Kyouraku was right -- he really had been spending too much time working. It was time that he networked a bit.
The worst that could happen was his getting drank under the table, or Kyouraku bringing up something he didn't want to speak about in a moment where he was far too overwhelmed to stop himself from doing so.
Easy, really. Get through the evening without embarassing yourself to an elder captain who knows perfectly well how to embarass the newbies. Easy.
He was doomed.
