Spring Break

I went on a short cruise this week.

My first one. I don't know that I'll ever go on another. The motion of the ship and I didn't really get along too well. I didn't feel sick until I got home, then blech. And there were a few too many raucous drunken people around most of the time. Parts of it, though, were very nice.

For a week I contemplated what books to take. No, three is too many! I'll never read all those. I can't take a nice hardback, it'll get messed up sitting by the pool! etc. Then, this in the airport.

Mr. checkers: Hm, I didn't bring a book. Maybe I'll buy one.
Me: I could have lent you a book! Many books! Hundreds!
Mr. checkers: This one looks fine.
Me: *winces* I will not let you buy a book by John Grisham.
Mr. checkers: *confused* Why?
Me: Just BECAUSE.
Mr. checkers: Ok, How about this one?
Me: James Patterson? I think not.

The ship had a library and he ended up borrowing one. We visited Key West, which was tremendously cool, and Cozumel, Mexico where we drove a dune buggy around the island, went snorkeling, and saw ancient Mayan ruins. The dune buggy we had was a death trap--it was a stick shift, so I had to drive it, broken speedometer, broken gas gauge, no rear view mirror, etc. But FUN. :) We snorkeled over a coral reef and saw a yellow coral surrounded by hundreds of tiny yellow fish. And the ship had a casino.

Me: Ok, I'm only going to put five dollars in the slot machine.  No more.

Me: Whoa. Must play more.

Me: MORE!
Mr. checkers: Give me those quarters! Here's your $5 back. You can play with that.
Me: Ok!

Me: !!!
Mr. checkers: Step away from the quarters. Here's your $5.

Anyway, I won $75 and let him tear me away when I lost the original $5 but all night I kept thinking, "If only, if only...". I can see how people lose lots of money in casinos.

Here is my cool monkey coconut that had a fruity rum drink in it. Yes, I brought it home in my suitcase.

Ah, tackiness, thy name is Carnival Cruise.
