I had the pleasure of seeing Randy in Silence! The Musical on Friday night with a few LJ friends, some of whom I've met for the very first time. Ladies, you are all amazing and I am so, so glad I had this wonderful opportunity to meet you and enjoy our lovely Randy Harrison in a hilarious play.
Regarding Randy, he was totally and completely awesome!
I've seen him in the Habit of Art in DC and in Red in NJ, so I know he's a really good stage actor; and I've seen his singing talents on YouTube as well, but it's totally different seeing him sing, dance & act live on stage. Each time I see him I'm ever more impressed and I think I would have totally fallen in love with his many talents (not to mention incredible good looks) even if I never saw Queer as Folk.
Anyway, to make this long story short, we all got to meet him after the performance when he came to the bar (with the rest of the cast) to get a drink. He was super, super nice. He smiled widely the whole time and seemed in a good mood. My mom was along with us for the trip as it's her birthday weekend and when I mentioned this to him, he wished her a happy birthday, which was very nice of him.
Oh, speaking of my mom, she has only seen 2 episodes of QAF - the pilot and ep 2 - and although she has read my stories, she isn't exactly a fangirl. Well, about midway through Silence!, after yet another awesome scene with Randy as Dr. Chilton, she turns to me and whispers "I understand why you girls are all obsessed with him. He's wonderful! I'm in love!" So, through sheer talent that has nothing to do with QAF, Randy got himself another fan who would love to see him on stage again, and again, and again (her words).
Lastly, when I asked for a picture with him, he graciously agreed and actually put his arms around me and my mother, who just had to be in the shot (maybe I was wrong about my mom not being a Randy fangirl, because she now totally is). The picture came out just fantastic - his smile was just brilliant, as you can see below.
My mom and I are cropped out because who wants to see our mugs when Randy's smiling so damned prettily.
Anyway, we talked to him just for a few minutes and then let him enjoy the downtime with his castmates. I got to speak to a couple of the other actors, who were all phenomenal in the play. They were all very, very friendly people and didn't mind interacting with a few audience members.
The whole night was just fantastic and I had one of the best weekends in a long time.
