Two things:
A) I can't hear the difference between Gerard Way and Bert McCracken's (lead singer of The Used) voices, singing a duet on Bowie's Under pressure. It's pretty goddamn good, and it's too bad they hate each other now, because they should definitely do it again. I still find it amusing on so many levels that Bert (the dirtiest thing the music industry has seen since Cobain, no lie) has a girlier voice than Gerard. Please don't ask me why.
B) I don't know if I'm viewing this with my slash goggles on or something, but what I hear when I listen to the second verse of The Used's Pretty Handsome Awkward is Bert McCracken singing "Gerard Way, you're a gigantic asshole. Pretty, and interesting for about two minutes, yes. But an asshole." It's entirely possible this is wishful thinking, but seriously.
(It may help if I tell you that My Chemical Romance and The Used used to be the best of buddies once upon a time -- Gerard and Bert were drinking buddies, and according to pretty general fandom consensus (and yes, my own personal canon, shut up), fucking -- and MCR drummer Bob Bryar was once The Used's sound tech, but things were somehow fucked up and they fell out. Don't ask me how, or what the idiots have done, but there you go. It involves Bert McCracken and (I think?) a megaphone, which always translates into badness. Bandom: we don't need to invent our intrigue, it's all right there. We couldn't make this shit up.)
I really like The Used, I discover to my amazement. The funny thing here is that I really, really dislike Bert McCracken. It's no secret that Gerard Way is an alcoholic and neither that Bert was his drinking buddy (and possibly enabler) when Gee was at his worst, but interestingly, this is not even half the reason to why I really don't like Bert at all. He's creepy. And he looks like he hasn't showered in forever, in addition to looking like the kid who will wait until the bigger fellas have beaten you up and then steal your wallet and kick you in the kidneys while you're down. But I really like The Used's music, which sort of makes me feel like a sell-out. Woe, my life, so hard.
