Pam Moment of the Day: Nostalgia

Jul 15, 2009 16:57

Last night I went tot the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price. Nick and I decided to go to AMC Parkway Pointe 15 because it is close to home, and I knew that location would not sell out completely. This location is where I was the manager for nearly a year, and I was taken by surprise by my reaction to the experience. As I talked to my friend and old coworker, "purchased" the tickets, found the perfect seats and stood in line for snacks, I was overwhelmed by nostalgia. This was the first consumer experience I had since leaving Parkway, and I realized how much the job had a hold on me, especially at this location.

From the moment I arrived, everything sparked daydream-like emotions and thoughts. As soon as I walked into the building, the scent of popcorn filled my face. I noticed that like usual, one of the escalators was broken. At least it was one that goes down. The lobby was full of moviegoers and Harry Potter fanatics, socializing, planning where to sit and choosing their favorite, grossly overpriced, movie munchies. I talked with Tommy for a while, and later I chatted with Sean about my  new job. Nick and I were lead to theatre six by the ridiculous carpet pattern that looks to me like kitty cat faces, and after settling into our seats, I left to take a restroom break and "purchase" popcorn and Coke Zero. While standing in the long line, I was a victim of a drive-by hugging by Sherita, as she rushed to concession to help during the rush. The kids were working so hard, but they still found the time to get my attention and shout hello. They were so happy to see me, and I was pleased to see them, too. Popcorn pieces were scattered across the cat faces and stomped in between the floor tiles. As I handed Tre my coupon for a #1 Combo, I caught myself cleaning the counter. "I bet you don't miss these rushes," he said. I took a good look at the scene. Sherita and John were frantically pouring popcorn and Arctic Blasts and preparing hot dogs. The cashiers were running around like crazy, and in the background, I could hear the sound of at least five coke syrups needing to be replaced.  I suppose I don't miss the rushes, but there are definitely things I miss about that place.

If I was never transferred to Cumming, Georgia, would I have taken the Pam job? Probably, but the desperation to get out of a crappy situation was a huge factor in the decision.
