[ooc; O-OKAY SO UM! A couple of things!
One, apologizes for the spam; the holidays just haaave to coincide with Phoenix and Edgeworth‘s DAY OF EMO, so…o-orz. I‘ll backtag as best I can!
Secondly, the beginning prose is a totally optional read! It‘s pretty much just Phoenix TL;DR emoting about stuff he is seriously overreacting to because he is a

O-ow my finger--
....Phoenix?
I'm... I'm going back to the hotel--
Reply
Wh--is something wrong?
[Well, DUH. But he means...the 'ow.']
Er, so am I, actually -- um.
[There's a pause. What are you supposed to say someone who's just experienced the first anniversary of his father's death when, in your time, he's been dead for sixteen years?]
...do you want to get some hot chocolate?
[Because sweet, chocolately things are the answer to everything!]
Reply
[There's a small pause, the quiet punctuated by Pip's soft whining before Miles speaks again.]
Um.... hot chocolate? [He's already had some with Ken earlier..]
I was actually thinking that I should go get Pip some dinner...
Reply
and DAMMIT KEN WHY U DO DIS. Oh, well, Phoenix will take what he can get.]
Oh, er...
...do you want me to come with you?
[Miles, this might just be the most awkward you'll ever see Phoenix act around you ever. Feel free to either be off-put or touched by this.]
Reply
[At Phoenix's offer, there's another pause. And then a soft sigh could be heard, a deep breath.]
....I'll meet you where the Christmas tree is. There's... there's something I might as well tell you about today.
...About my mother.
Reply
Maybe you should put him in your coat...?
[And YES, SUCCESS. You can't see it, but Phoenix's expression is pretty relieved at the moment. He just wants to make sure Edgeworth is oka--
--oh. Wait. That sounds ominous.
Well, might as well save it for their face to face meeting. Because he's thinking all of this, there's a bit of a pause before he replies;] Alright.
Reply
....I'll be waiting there, then.
[He clicks off the feed almost immediately after, but if Phoenix makes his way over to the center of the city, he'll be able to find the little boy sitting on one of the benches, cradling his backpack, Pip prancing about in the snow.]
Reply
When he finds you, Phoenix is so giving you one of his coats, Miles.
And so, a little while after you get there, he's Phoenix trotting up from the opposite end of town. He looks a bit tired, and there's still that aura of sadness that comes with the fact that someone DIED on this day -- but at least by now, he's managed to fight down that prickling sensation, as well.]
...hey, Edgeworth.
[And he gives you a...rather melancholy-looking smile.]
Reply
.......It's Miles. [is his greeting as he looks up at Phoenix. His hair is still slightly damp and -- oh, are those bandages around the child's hands again?]
--- are you all right?
Reply
and also FFFF that was a name fail on my part. ;; PRETEND HE'S JUST...SLIPPING BECAUSE OF ALL THE THINKING HE'S BEEN TODAY TODAY. Yes.
Either way, though, he blinks at that and...chuckles apologetically.]
R-right. Sorry, Miles.
[He's giving you a look-over, Miles, and he does not like what he sees. THOSE BANDAGES ARE NOT BRINGING BACK GOOD MEMORIES OH GOD HEAT--
--ahem. He DOES look at them with concern, though.]
I...think I should be asking you that, Miles.
[He kneels down a bit so he can get a better look, brows furrowing.]
What happened to your hands...?
Reply
At Phoenix's concerned question, Miles raises his hands off his backpack, staring at the bandages. Nurse Joy had overdone them, perhaps because she'd been so busy trying to weasel an answer out of the child while she was working. She'd been so persistent.. it was only thanks to Ken that she stopped her interrogation, after all.]
I--
[He couldn't say it. I was digging a grave for my father with my bare hands sounded ridiculous even to him, even if it had meant so much to him at the time... he could have used a shovel, after all...
Besides. Would Phoenix understand? He wasn't sure if even Ken would..]
It's... it's nothing. Just a cut..
Reply
...and, really, Miles? LOOK AT THOSE HANDS. "It's just a cut" is not going to fly with Phoenix, especially not given his very similar encounter with father-related-hand-torture earlier this month.
His brows furrow further, partically out of concern and partially out of exasperation -- gdi you guys and your lying.]
That many bandages for just a cut?
[It's not like he needs Edgeworth to tell him EXACTLY what happened, but...Phoenix doesn't like being lied to, okay.]
Reply
[And the bandages were a bit too tight, anyway. WIth a small, muttered promise that he would bandage them up again, Miles starts to unravel the wrappings around his fingers silently.
He wasn't... going to tell Phoenix why his hands were this hurt. The only way to tell the man without words would be to... well, show him.]
Reply
...and he can't help but feel juuust a bit nausious. This situation is not ringing a lot of good bells for him, like. At all.]
...alright.
[He straightens up, shrugging off his first jacket and motioning for Miles to lift up his hands. Obviously, he wants to wrap them in something not-soaking wet, which might actualy not be a bad idea!]
We can get Pip's dinner later -- first, we need to get you back to the hotel.
Reply
It's fine. It won't take that long, and Pip is hungry.
Reply
[Once again, he kneels down, this time so that he's eye level with the kid.]
Do you really think Pip will want her trainer's hands to fall off because he was too stubborn to realize that he really needs to keep them warm as soon as possible?
[He's no doctor, but those hands do NOT look good. Gently, but insistantly, he presses his coat towards Miles, under his hands.]
I'll get her some food once you're back in the room, and once I've rebandaged those hands of yours. Heather DID day the nurses tied them too tight...
[MILES, DO NOT MAKE HIM CARRY YOU. BECAUSE HE WILL. QUITE POSSIBLY AGAINST YOUR WILL.]
