Farewell to a Great Gentleman

Feb 05, 2010 11:02

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of Howard Wayne Smith.

Howard was David solaswolfen's grandfather. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday for digestive issues and passed this morning from complications of a heart attack.

David is in shock at the moment. I will be there for him.

Howard was a ganuinely good man. He did his best to understand the relationship I have with David and it was through his intervention that over the past few years I had been included in the variety of family functions held by David's family. He lost his wife of fifty years in 2005 and a daughter in 2006. I was there last year when we nearly lost him and it was evident to me that he was ready to go. I knew then that the next major crisis would be the last.

Funeral arangements are being made as I write this. That being said I have the following to say.

To all who read this, hold your loved ones close and remember with joy those people in your life who filled you with happiness and then left to cross over to a better existence.

To Solaswolfen, please know you can lean on me and I will be your strength through this. I love you yeserday, today, and tomorrow.

To Mr. Howard Smith, welcome home. I am sure you are happy to see your wife and daughter again. Thank you very much for your grace and humility in this life. Thank you for welcoming me into your family when other would rather I had been excluded. You have earned a rest. Have a safe journey and may your transition be a smooth one.

That is all for now. If David makes his own post about this I will edit this post.

rip, david
