I've been beyond busy, and haven't had time to post about the LJ cr*p, much less DH and my response to it, but I just had to post about this. I'm currently at a conference in hot, disgustingly muggy, overpriced beautiful, scenic Orlando, and today my colleague and I decided to blow off the last couple of sessions for the day, pile in the rental car, and drive about 50 miles...
TO WATCH THE
SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH!!!!!
OMG, guys, I...
...there just aren't words. I'm an aerospace engineer by training and quasi-profession, and swear to God, I'm tearing up just thinking about it again.
The drive was a pain, with too many toll booths, inexact directions, and lots of idiots on the road, and when we got there we had to park and walk a fair piece in the blazing, sweltering humidity, and wait in line to buy tickets and then go find a place on the lawn to stand and wait in the sun with all the other tourists, and afterwards, it took us about 3 hours to drive back...
...AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY BIT OF IT!
God, she was so beautiful! Endeavour is in orbit, expected to make rendezvous with the International Space Station on Friday.
And I watched her take off.
Incredible.
...now to go mirror this post on GJ and IJ and JF if I can find my login...
