Turned in my name change papers with the $88 court fee (they raised it right after I picked up the packet a few weeks ago). My hearing is on December 3rd. I'm anxious about getting turned down... my record is clean but it's a conservative county. We'll see ( Read more... )

so basically I just tried to explain my experience with Marlowe, but it turned into a huge essay so I'll try to boil it down for you.

basically, I heard about Marlowe from Loren (you may know him) in the summer of 2008. he was a god-send at first. he was great. I started T on my first appointment and I highly recommended him in the FTM community here on LJ. about 6+ months into my HRT, he has a whole new staff, who were not AT ALL informed about trans people, and his demeanor/personality greatly changed. he ended up withholding T from me (for his own selfish reasons) until he was confronted by my (amazing) psychologist, who is a professional acquaintance of his. she was very upset and concerned by his actions. she informed me that she and her colleagues do NOT refer anyone to him for a long list of reasons (and my psychologist is basically to go-to-girl for trans issues in Charlotte so this says a lot). I ended up asking my family doctor if he knew anyone who would prescribe me hormones/monitor my HRT and he said that he didn't know anyone, but that he works with older men with low testosterone so he felt comfortable working with me as well. so... it led to a really good situation, but it was a lot of frustration, negativity, and emotional instability (due to hormonal instability).

I couldn't say enough good things about him for the first 6 months, but I have nothing but terrible things to say about him since then. my psychologist is still encouraging me to take action against him for gross HIPAA violations among other things, but it's not worth my time/energy/money. it's a really long, messed up story. again, this is only my experience, but just giving you a heads up.

That's disappointing. Thanks a lot for the heads-up though, you probably just saved me a lot of money and time. Is there any chance you could share the name of your prescribing doctor? I've got one other lead on a guy in Winston-Salem (Dr. Pittaway), but apparently he's only worked with transwomen and is pretty inexperienced with the whole gig.
