The Public Footpaths & Bridleways are a splendid British institution, I agree! Full of stunning views and there is at least one pretty much everywhere you go. But the best bit is trying to find them and to follow them. Many are rather challenging even if you have a walking book and it feels like a treasure hunt all of it's own.... e.g. 'cross the field to the old oak', 'follow the fence til you the kissing gate' leading to endless discussions whether the tree over there is an oak or not, what a kissing gate looks like and whether that muddy patch ahead is actually a foot path or not. SO MUCH FUN!
Never encountered a dragon (yet), but came across cows in a field with the path leading right through. Officially farmers are not allowed to put any animals on there that pose a risk, but I always feel a bit apprehensive and keep eying them gingerly. They're just so fucking big.
Lol - I didn't expect any photographic evidence... Those calf are very cute, but that grey one in the middle would scare the bejeezus out of me, there is just something very unnerving about a cow stare.

And I always feel so adventurous and daring, ready to fight dragons or something like that! *lol*
