Have you ever heard criticism of Freud? That he applied meaning to every little thing? Sometimes a chicken is just a chicken. It's appalling to me how people assume that they know the meanings behind every word or gesture. How can they honestly state they know. They aren't in the person's head. It is arrogant and presumptuous to state that you know what they are thinking or feeling based on their actions. Then, after hearing their criticisms, they wonder why nobody has any time for them. It's great to say you aren't judgmental, but when your words all state judgement, it just is uncomfortable to be around. I try anyway. But somehow the fact that I have way too much on my plate right now doesn't figure in. I'm supposed to do what others want and when to 'prove' myself to them. It doesn't matter that I have other things to worry about. They know best. They always know what is in everyone's heads. Then they wonder why I don't have energy to spend on hearing their demands, judgements, and implications. I love the friendship, when we are able to get there. Usually I first have to hear all the other stuff. How happy, open, and friendly can one be when it's all negative.
I watched a movie recently that I didn't expect to like. It's called Spanglish. There were some points in there that hit home so much I almost cried. Like the character, she has no idea why anything she does could be hurtful. Like Jareth, "everything I've done, I've done for you" not knowing (or caring?) the damage being done.
