I am glad to know the law in Missouri has already been tested, leaving less loopholes such as arguing "I didn't intend to expose them" and "HIV isn't a deadly disease". I'm sure he'll find his own, though. He's had plenty of time to think about it.

I've been meaning to tell you this for a week now!

I was contacted by the Johnson Co. Prosecutor's office, in an effort to gauge my cooperation with the case, I guess. As I'm sure she's already told you (and you probably know all this, but I'll recount the conversation here just for your knowledge), Rob is basically "on loan" from Kansas on a 180 day writ. The Prosecutor's office was told, in no uncertain terms, that they wanted Rob out of their jail as quickly as possible. So instead of dragging out the court dates like they usually do, they scheduled that sucker right away. (Interesting to see what they can do when they're interested in expediting the process, eh?) She also told me that she'd be offering him, what she referred to as, a "10 and go" or a 10 year plea bargain. As we all know, Rob's ego is his worst enemy, and since he's plead "not guilty" in each of the other trials, I'm sure this one will be no exception since in his own twisted mind, I think he actually believes he's not guilty. So, to that end, the Prosecutor said she'd be going for the full 30 year max if at all possible if he won't take the plea bargain. Yay for that. (Of course we all know that doesn't really = time served, as he'll probably be up for parole way sooner.)

Dr. Penn, who was our treating physician when we lived in Lawrence as you probably recall, has been asked to testify. In the instance that for, whatever reason, he wouldn't be able to, the Prosecutor said that chances were good that I'd be flown in to testify to Rob's health during the time we were together. Fun times; Sept. 10th is my birthday LOL Just what I wanted to do, see his stupid ass-face. I'm sure it won't come to that though.

I'll definitely let you know if I hear anything further. Congratulations to you for pursuing this. We all thoroughly appreciate you for it. :)

Okay, this is awesome information. Thank you. I haven't really talked to the Prosecutor's office yet so I didn't know. I'm most pleased to hear that it sounds like they're taking this seriously. I was afraid with the short time-frame they'd blow off the trial, but calling witnesses sounds positive. Even better is the idea of going after the maximum penalty! I suppose I could sleep at night if he only got 10 years, but in Missouri I think that means he might serve five. Thirty is much more up my alley. You would have to think that surely this time he'd just plead guilty, but I bet he won't. UGH. I so don't want to go through another trial (one all about me, no less, which will surely be in the small town papers)--but for the chance of keeping him off the streets for another 10, 15, 30 years or so--definitely.
