Sitting in my dorm in New York City

I am in college. So strange. But it has been great. My mom and dad and I drove up on Thursday and stayed with family in North Carolina, then continued to NY on Friday. Then in Saturday my mom and I woke up early to sit in line for Wicked tickets. We got three 10th row seats for that night. That was our birthday present to my daddy. So before the show we went up to the Barnard Columbia area and walked around. Let me tell you that I love Morningside Hights. Right by the campus is the gorgrous Grant's Tomb. There is also this huge gorgeous church a block away from campus, not to mention St. John the Diving just a couple more blocks away. And there is so much more green space then you would ever think there could be in NYC. There are at least 3 parks with in 3 blocks of campus. They are so peaceful. I can not wait for it to cool down a little bit so that I can take a book over to a park, sit under a tree or in a gazebo and read, listening to my iPod and drinking some coffee.
Wicked was so amazing. I never thought that anyone could be as good as the original Elfaba and glenda, but these people were. And the girl who plays Glenda now, this is her first broadway show. can you imagine? She is hilarious. Anyway, I have diecided that I will be in Wicked. I can totally do the dancing. It is amazing. And they are all really tall and have long lines and such. All i need is to get into some voice lessons. You just wait. I will be on Broadway. I am already living on Broadway, so that has to be a step in the right direction. And i told my adviser that i was interested in Musical Theatre and I wanted to audition while I am here and he said that that is totally do-able. Quite a few people that he advised ended up on Broadway.
Sunday I woke up early to take a pilates class. It was really great. Then my mom and dad and i went on the three hour cruise around the island. It was so cool. NYC is such an amazing and interesting place. I got to see my school from the river which was very exxciting. Northern Manhattan is so beautiful. There is so much green space. And i have decided that I am going to learn how to sail. I think there is a sailing club at Columbia that me and a few of my friends plan to join. I can not wait.
After the cruise we went to Little Italy to eat dinner. It is so hard for me to grasp that places like that with so much flavor and culture are just subway stops away from me right now. I got an amazing purse there too.
Monday morning we woke up early to move me in. The move in went very smoothly. And i love my room. We have three beds in the bigger room and all of the desks in the smaller room. There is a fireplace in the smaller room that has a mantle. I love it. We have my coffee maker up there and that sign that Laura-Ann and Tyler gave me for Christmas lasy year that says "Cafe". We also have a vase that we will soon put fresh flowers in. It is so homey. I was really afraid that I had brough too much stuff, but there is a lot of storage space in our room so I brought just enough. Julia, I have my Homestar Runner poster right above my bed, but the whole portel thing doesn't seem to work. Oh well. I might just write you a letter.
So I have been here for just three days but it seems like more cause we have done so much. I have met many people and made many friends. There has been tons and tons of laughter and I love laughter. The bad thing is that I am sick. I have a cold so my head feels like it is going to explode. I woke up thi morning with an almost-horrible-migrain which is why i am posting and not down at breakfast yet. i made coffee in my room for the first time and it has made me happy. My head is better though, so I should probably get showered and grab a bagel. Tonight is the swing dance on the SS Intrepid. Boy is that going to be fun. I do not have time to proof read and check spelling so i apologize for all of my typos. I love you all! Write me a letter.
