Cleaning and boybanders and elves, oh my!

From now on, I only eat on paper with plastic. Yes, this is a bad, bad thing, but my condo is now off the EPA Superfund list, so I figure I break even in the environmental impact category.

I hope that JC being out and about means that he's finished with the new CD and it's now just up to Jive to release the first single. He's looking a little skinnier in recent pics - I'm guessing that he's been buried in Justin in the studio all month. Finally! Do you realize that in my entire tenure as a fan, the boys have done nothing new? (Okay, we've had a few teasers such as 'If I Don't' and Justin's collabs, but JC was done with promo (or almost - I think he was in Britain) by the time I actually knew who he was.)

I got some very cool news with the latest issue of Vinyar Tengwar, a scholarly journal for the Tolkien linguistic community. The 50th Anniversary edition of Lord of the Rings includes a new index and new information culled from Tolkien's unpublished papers at Marquette.

Even better, the editors who prepared the new edition have published a companion book that includes Tolkien's linguistic notes regarding names and places in LOTR. These notes were originally published in A Tolkien Compass but were excluded from the recent reissue of that book at the request of Christopher Tolkien because the notes were to be republished by the estate. So, we've been waiting for this since 2001. After I finished cleaning, I hopped on amazon.com and ordered both books as a reward for all my hard work. (And I still have that new issue of VT to read! I'm such a geek.)

Mostly, I keep hoping for some nuggets in the unpublished linguistic material that will give us more clues to the language of the Woodland Elves and perhaps more information about Oropher, Thranduil and Legolas.
