sleepy lunch break
Sin chao! yea that's hello in vietnamese for now. it varies from the books and what my 'newfound' friends tell me.
it's day two in vietnam! and only day 2 but like all trips abroad, nuch more happens in the hours you spend in a foreign land!
We are going to stay at hanoi university for the next three wks.
Very quickly, i've learnt the names of the other 15 people we are travelling with and even got to know some vietnamese students already. We had our first lecture this morning but it was nth formal. im using the internet from the place where we have our meals. food has been really simple, just to fill the tummy. its v bland! simple veg, egg or meat which is either too salty or bland. ytd e guys actually called e vege soup we had 'pond water'! well it's good i'm so weird in what i eat cos well all that food goes down into my tummy anyway.
we had beef pho noodles after we landed from the plane on sunday. some guys commented it was e worst flight ever and others said it was only ok. well.. it wasnt the best flight. from the beginning. the plane took off and met w turbulence, then felt like it was ascending for half an hour at least and then hit more turbulence. all the while i was thinking abt the Qantas flight that hit turbulence a few weeks ago and fell a height of 10 storeys. so i thot.. well it can't be as bad as tt. the food i ordered on e plane wasnt nice either. thai green curry n fish cake, but the fish cake was too salty and e green curry was ok only. but it was more of a drizzle of gravy. the rice was soggy. so e main dish was bad but the bread roll was nice and so were e rambutans in the fruit platter.
anyway, it has been some time since i got to experience in flight service and proper inflight meals. my last non budget flight was all e wae back in 2005 to thailand~
The good thing abt the flight was that.. vietnam airlines is a blue plane! and i like blue so i was happy to be sitting in a blue plane =) (unfortunately struck by bad turbulence)
We landed in hanoi on schedule. the first night at the hostel was ok but the living std is not gd. and well my rm aircon does not work. haha. but since we arrived on sunday, it remained drizzly through monday so it was cool in the day and comfy at night.
Tuesday today and we finally see nice c=blue skies which i took some shots of!
Just only after mondae i alrdy snapped 200 photos haha. we had an afternoon tour at e old quarter and also one student brought a group of 3 of us to walk around the vicinity. and that's where i saw at e local vietnamese stuff.
The conical hats, motorcycle honking etc.
travelling thru e streets reminds me of e time we were all in philippines. its more or less the same 'look'. and of course.
ive been enjoying every moment of this nice slower pace of life =)
gg for another city tour this afternoon now.
oh the main highlight for mondae after e sucky food was.. we went out by ourselves by cab at night n went for some good pizza and a jug of margharita! at abt 6 sing each. total bill per person ytd night was only 12 sing?
kk rushing off now. will cont when i can access internet agn.
