Ah-- no, that's.. audio... now I think this is-- aha...

[After this satisfied chuckle, the audio feed turns into a video, and the proud, grinning face of a young man with brown hair appears on-screen. He's seated on a rock on Route 29, judging from from faint background music, and a dainty looking Vulpix is just visible in the corner of the screen, ( Read more... )

Huh, I never really thought about clocks working the same way here...

[ he seems a bit lost in thought, but then perks up again when he realises that he contacted this guy for a reason: ] I hate to break it to you, though, but you're definitely not anywhere close to where you were before. This place is called Johto.

I cannot believe that my clock is not working right. It only loses 0.001 seconds every year...!

[Ahem.]

I... was told that, yes. Something about Pokémon, and video games becoming reality. Are you from another world, as well?

And you know this... how? Not to pry, dude, but that seems a little bit too precise.

Yeah. It's a video game from the early 90s where you catch and train Pokemon for battle. If you've heard of it, there's a pretty good chance that we're from the same world.

Precision is the key to everything, especially solving a mystery. As a detective, I must always keep that close to heart. [Insert sage nod here.]

That sounds around the time I come from. I was on a plane on the way to London, from Japan, when I arrived here... my name is Saguru Hakuba. And you are...?

Ohhh, you're one of those types, huh? You may not believe it, but I've got some detective experience myself. [ rueful smile. ]

I'm Yosuke Hanamura. Actually, Japan's where I was before I arrived here, too-- I live in Inaba.

Oh! Is that so? Then we're comrades-- tell me, what kind of cases have you solved? I usually stay in Tokyo when I visit Japan, but I have experience with cases across the nation.

[ rofl yosuke never actually expected this guy to react that way. he chuckles awkwardly, searching for words. ] Oh, well, you know... there were these murders in Inaba and I-- er, and a group of my friends-

[ trying to put this delicately.... can't be talking about summoning parts of his psyche to fight monsters ]

W-We were... informants! We worked pretty closely with the police, I mean.

---Murder in Inaba?

Strange.. I have never heard of such a case before. My father is the Metropolitan Police Chief, but he has never told me about a group of teenage informants, either.

[....Well this is peculiar.]

Oh, uh, well... the details were pretty hush-hush, and Inaba is a really small town.

[ awkward retcon goin on here ] Y-You were probably busy with more important stuff, anyway.

No.

I make sure I am aware of everything as not to miss a single clue. If anything happened, I would know. [Pompous much?]

... Maybe we are from different worlds, after all.

Different worlds...

Perhaps. Are there people from worlds other than ours, as well, Mr. Hanamura?

It's definitely looking that way. I mean, I'm pretty sure I met a dude that wasn't even human.

Not human, you say?

Why, that sounds pretty absurd...!

Man, if you think that's absurd, you're gonna have a hard time here. I think first place in the "weird" competition goes to the fact that we're in a video game.

Ah-- yes. That too.

I have never played the game much, myself, so it does not occur to me as prominently that Pokémon is a video game... I do think the situation is very interesting, however.
