Name: Saguru Hakuba
Series: Detective Conan/Magic Kaito
Timeline: After the Detective Koushien arc of chapter 566, on his way home to London

Personality: You see them everywhere, those cool and smooth-talking men that can woe all the girls with their playboy gentlemanly ways how does that even work anyway, and you see these even more: those gentlemen, with their sweet smirks and knuckle-kissing, actually being really derpy boys that one may call "cute and sometimes stupid" - like Hakuba's archenemy, Kid. Sorry to be a combo breaker, guys, but your good ol' Saguru Hakuba is a pompous (half) Brit through and through! Hakuba definitely knows how to be socially graceful, and it's not even an act.
Now, getting down to being more serious, Hakuba, like almost every non-derpy-looking teenager in Detective Conan, is a high school detective, but unlike his rivals Kudo and Hattori, he seems more intent on finding out the "why"s behind the crimes than he does the "how"s. Although no official reason is stated in the canon, it's probably safe to assume that it's his pursuit of a personal philosophy (maybe we'll find out one day). Hakuba is also extremely meticulous. For example, whenever he checks the time, he goes down to the seconds (and sometimes miliseconds - he utilizes a pocket watch that only loses 0.001 seconds a year), and his photographic memory, a common trait among DC detectives, only makes him even more detailed and precise and perfectionistic. As the son of the Metropolitan Police Chief, Hakuba knows the dos and don'ts of a professional police investigation: be logical, be calm, and find the criminal... principal that sometimes clashes with those of other youth detectives, such as hot-headed Hattori, who wouldn't think twice about ruining evidence if that meant a life could be saved; in the Detective Koushien arc, the two actually get into an argument about this, where Hakuba remarked that Hattori was "too hot-headed or savage." Although he might come off as being ruthless, Hakuba is truly just ambitious about his work... and it shows in the way he pursues a certain sycophantic phantom thief.
Hakuba's first appearance in Magic Kaito (later integrated into the DC plot in the way TRC and Holic are) is as a youth detective visiting from London with a deep interest in the white-suited thief, Kid. With his sharp wits and logical analysis, he comes close to catching Kid during their first encounter, and an obsession was born. Determined to put Kid behind bars, Hakuba transfers from the London Bridge School (in England, dur) and into Ekoda High School in Tokyo - interestingly enough, he ends up as Kid's true identity Kaito Kuroba's classmate. He continues to show up at Kid's heists, and using his scientist grandfather's research laboratory, he collects detailed data about the thief and, in chapter 17 of Magic Kaito, with his last evidence, Kid's hair, he comes to the conclusion that Kaito Kuroba is, in fact, Kid. Of course the guy denied it, but Hakuba continues to pursue him, though, as mentioned earlier, his main goal is not simply to arrest Kaito Kuroba, but is in fact his ultimate question, his famous: "Why do you do this?" Hakuba's ambition is one to be admired, though sometimes he gets to caught up in it that his brain automatically forms the thief = culprit equation, something an irritable Hattori scathingly called him out for during the Detective Koshien.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Some pretty intense analytical and logic skills. His data-gathering is precise and infuriatingly detailed, and his interpretation of them have an accuracy of maaaaybe 98%
+ A constant level-headedness and calm that supports his logical thought process. He's a chill bro, guys.
+ Apart from being a chill bro, he can also be quite the ladies man.
- He's pompous and sometimes overly confident. He thinks (juuust like everyone else) that he'll be the one to catch Kid, and he makes is oh so very obvious in his attitude.
- "I am always right." His investigation skills and methods are superb, but he doesn't really realize that that's not the only right way. He looks down on those that don't have the same ideas as him, which would lead to conflict.
- His rich-boy attitude is sometimes extremely annoying. :T
