Day 02: Least Favorite Song

Click to viewDo I know why this song grates on me each and every time I hear it? No. Was this the song that I wrote a three page paper on why it sucked for my 'History of Pop Music' class my senior year of undergrad? Yes. Does it still make me want to climb up a wall when I hear it? Yes.
Maybe it was oversaturation when it first came out, or something else. But I just have to turn the channel if I ever hear it on.

I'm not sure I need to go further than saying that there is something very problematic about the lyrics 'we'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way'. Look, I'm American, I have no shame in that. Moving to Scotland has made me more inclined to appreciate loud American laughter, the tendency to yell across the street when you see someone you know, and to strike up a conversation in the Tesco with someone you don't because the line is slow and you're bored. I like being American for the most part.
However... really? I get this song is post-9/11, but it just makes us all sound like angry, ignorant hicks which we all are most assuredly not. Not the best foot forward, and it just makes me roll my eyes each and every time.
