SGA 3.13 Irresponsible

You know, I thought that it was a fun ep. Light and fluffy, and you know what, I like the light and fluffy on occasion. Sometimes my brain needs the light and fluffy. And, unlike a lot of people, I'm a fan of Lucius. I've always liked Richard Kind, and Lucius is delightfully and entertaininly skeezy to me. He's the guy you never want to meet in a bar, but you always do. I think he's funny.

Yes, there was no continuity with Hide and Seek. Not in the least. It's like H&S didn't even exist, and you know, I can get past that. I'm used to it. I've stopped looking for continuity. I've stopped expecting it. If I want deep and meaningful scifi, I watch Battlestar Galactica. For the fun and fluff and glee? SGA.

And the ep was awesome and fun and fluffy for me -- until the last couple of minutes. Yay for giving me some Carson in a black t-shirt and standing up to the Kolya from the cell. Yay for Ronon's snide asides, ESPECIALLY in the superhero conversation. Yay for Teyla being all 'John, no.' and being all alpha!female about it. It was all very yay for me.

And then they fuck it up.

Kolya was the best villain they had in SGA. Hands down. He was cold, calculating, brilliant, frightening, unendingly cool to watch. I adored when we'd get Kolya on screen. And if he's going to go down, give him a blaze of glory befitting his awesomeness. Cowan got a nuclear blaze of glory, and the most awesome of the Genii receives nothing less.

What do they do instead? A John Wayne moment and Kolya doesn't even get to pull his gun. It's all very blase. It's all so very dull. Kolya deserved SO MUCH MORE, and that totally ruined the ep for me. When I rewatch it, I'm just going to have to stop it before John takes out Kolya like it's nothing. Kolya is the one who's supposed to live to fight another day. How could you get rid of your best villain in such a blah way?? TPTB, are you listening? Bad form!

BAD FORM!

I'm just going to have to pretend that Kolya isn't dead. It can be like daytime television. No one ever really dies in daytime television. Everyone has an evil twin or narrowly escaped even if you didn't see it. I don't care how they handwave it -- just don't let him really be dead. He's too awesome to die.
