|MOVIE DATE|

Jul 12, 2010 21:50

It was a date, but it wasn't. It really, really wasn't. Mitchell kept reminding himself of this over and over, but the word kept creeping up and sticking itself in his brain. There are some stupid mistakes that, no matter how much you tell yourself they're stupid and that you should forget about them, only keep coming back to you. In fact, telling yourself they're stupid and that you should forget about them only helps remind you. The more Mitchell fought it, the more the word asserted itself, like some great big stupid curse.

It also didn't help that Mitchell had two roommates who weren't shy about expressing themselves and their thoughts on Mitchell's wholly innocent activities. He'd left earlier than he needed to head to the Compound, just to lessen the amount of shit he was given. The teasing didn't really upset him; it was all in good fun. And Mitchell returned some fire at George's expense. But it wouldn't help Mitchell keep his cool and think of this as just something two friends do. Instead he just heard Annie cooing in the back of his mind.

In hindsight, it was a good thing he left earlier than he strictly needed to. He only felt dry after puttering around the Compound for an hour, moving the projector and screen and reel down to the lower levels. He felt a bit of an arse for stealing the whole setup, but he would essentially be doing the same if he and Sookie were watching the movie in the rec room. Plus, no one bothered him about it, so he didn't spare the act too much thought. The fact that they were going to watch a movie in a dark dormitory didn't help shove the word 'date' out of his head, but some things couldn't be helped. It was the only chance of watching in peace, without a dozen people stomping through, wet and complaining. The curtained entry eased the feel of it a little in Mitchell's mind, but not by much.

All that was left was the popcorn, as promised. A great deal of popping followed, some of it popcorn and some of it oil, but Mitchell managed to get a large bowlful, covered liberally in butter and salt. He stopped to consider one popped kernel, now turned pale gold in delicious buttery perfection. "Oh you are gorgeous," he announced before popping it into his mouth with a little groan of pleasure.
