[[Expanded Start/Fic will go here]
Chase wakes up in the recovery room, but he's still got so many drugs on-board that it's more like 'achieving semi-consciousness'. There is a lot of actual thought involved, just the niggling idea that he's forgetting something that's very, very important. Even how he ended up as a patient is something he neither knows, nor questions.
The second time he wakes up, it's to a blood pressure cuff inflating around his arm and he's more lucid. He knows where he is, he knows why, and he knows what he's forgetting. He squints against the overly bright ICU lights and makes out the nurse standing beside him, recording his oxygen saturation while she waits on the blood pressure reading.
"Call my house." His voice is rough, dry, and hoarse - more the result of the tube that's been down his throat than the fact that he's been stabbed in the gut and 'asleep' (unconscious) for as long as he had.
It won't be an instant call, but she'll call Aryn and tell her where Chase is. Fortunately, she should get that call not too long after Chase should have been home.
