Outside Pixie Cabin, Friday Afternoon

May 18, 2007 12:17

Angela had shipped almost all of her stuff home, but it wasn't time to leave for her flight yet. The last of her luggage was stacked just inside the cabin living room. Outside the cabin, she sat on the ground near the campfire, poking at the ashes with a stick and thinking.

Main thought: Goodbyes sucked. And she had let her friends know she was ( Read more... )

Anders was tired of goodbyes, and he had, quite possibly, a whole summer of them to look forward to.

So it wasn't out of any kind of discourtesy that he addressed Angela so tersely when he came by.

"Your turn today, huh?" he asked, hands in his pockets as he leaned against a nearby tree.

[OOC: SP on and off, as I'll be in and out for errands and such, if that's okay?]

"My turn," Angela agreed unhappily. "it came so, so fast."

[OOC: No problem!]

"It's unreal, almost," Anders said. "Seemed like something that was so far off for so long, and then all of a sudden bam, it's time to go. And gods, now it's my last year, and it's so not going to be the same with all of you guys gone. I know we didn't hang out as much as we used to, but I'm still gonna miss you, Chase."

And somehow Anders was making her cry. "I'm gonna miss you too, Anders," she said, staring at her feet again. "Bam," she echoed. "At least I know the school's in good hands."

"What's left of it anyway." Anders shot a rueful look in the general direction of the school.

His first instinct was to say something about how she must have meant his classmates, because 'good hands' so couldn't have meant him. But maybe everything he'd been hearing from people like Sam Carter and Phoebe about not giving himself enough credit was finally starting to sink in.

So he just nodded and took a deep breath, fighting back tears himself. "We'll do our best to take care of it for you guys once it's standing again, promise. Which you're totally going to see when you come back and visit, right?"

"Of course," Angela sighed. "If I possibly can. But it seems like everyone makes it for Homecoming, mostly."

She wiped at her eyes. "I can't wait to see the new school."

"Maybe I can send you pictures before then," Anders suggested hopefully. Which only made him start to wonder -- and worry -- if she'd make it back, or if something like what had happened to Xander would happen to her.

Time for a slight change of subject. "So . . . going to college after this?"

"Maybe," Angela agreed. "And yeah. I start at the University of New York in three months. Creative writing." She didn't sound entirely enthused.

Anders noticed, and gave her a quizzical glance. "I thought you liked writing. But you sound like you're taking it more because your parents want you to than anything else."

"Huh?" Angela said, blinking. "No, it is what I want to do. And my parents are being amazing about it. It's just I don't know if I want to not be HERE."

Anders nodded. "This place sort of gets into your blood, I guess. But . . . least you'll be doing what you want to do. I think it'd be worse if you weren't."

[OOC: Same here, so no problem.]

"Like if I were trying to be an accountant?" Angela asked. "Yeah, way worse."

She shook her head to clear it. "So do you have anything special planned for summer?"

"Special?" asked Anders. "Nah, not really, just hanging around. Enjoying as much time with certain people --" being vague so as to avoid mentioning Bel's name in case she might take it badly -- "as I can before it's their turn to go."

Angela was ignoring the whole Anders/Bel/Phoebe thing, because yeah, WAY too disturbing. "Sounds really nice," she said instead. "Enjoy your time here, seriously."

She stood to offer a hug. "I will be in touch."

Which was why he hadn't brought it up -- every now and then he could kind of be considerate. He was learning.

"I plan on it," he said, happy to accept the hug and give her one in return. "Sign me a copy of your first book, huh? There'll be a good home for it on another planet and everything."

"I'll send it via Fandom," Angela promised. "And you have to send me a trading card when you're a famous Pyramid player." She gave him a smile. 'Maybe sometime I'll get to see you play on Earth."
