Hi Mom --
Just wanted to let you know I'm on a semester break from December 21 through January 6. I'd kind of like to be back at school after the first so I can register for classes and see people and everything, but otherwise I guess I'm back home? I'm excited to visit you guys again, seriously -- I miss you and Danielle.
Anyhow, is it okay if Marty comes with me again? You know he doesn't have a family, and I would miss him way too much.
Classes and everything are good. I'm definitely much busier here than I ever was at home.

I will be happy to see you for whatever portion of your holiday break works with your busy schedule. We will try to carry through with as many holiday traditions as are possible, and of course we're always thrilled to see you.
As for Marty -- please understand why I am saying no. I don't dislike him, but I feel this Christmas will be difficult enough without adding him in. I'm sure he would be able to find another place for the holidays, perhaps with the Marcella he mentioned. Also, while I respect your relationship with him, I'm not certain you should be so serious about any one person at your age.
I know your father encouraged you to invite him to Thanksgiving; please don't go behind my back and ask him about Christmas. We do still talk, and this decision should stand for both of us.
