OK. Best game EVAR. If you like the grindhouse aesthetic. If you like zombies. If you reminisce over old arcade light-gun games. If you don't mind gore, and some truly disturbing imagery (and suggestions). And if you enjoy humor - both low and medium brow...
BEST GAME EVAR.
Seriously. I know from zombies. And I know from games. And I know from zombie games.
I have honestly never had this much fun killing zombies (er....mutants), ever. And that's saying a lot.
Granted: this game is only 3 hours long - but it plays, well, like a grindhouse movie. Really. Missing scenes and everything. This game is on the Wii but it plays to the Wii's strengths (just like Madworld, Sega's other entry into Wii hardcore gaming). It doesn't need massive graphic powers as it's supposed to be a scratchy-looking ghetto movie.
WITH THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER.
Well, up there near the best, anyway.
Everything truly fits - the humor, the style, the aesthetic, the extremely foul language, the, er, grind-y-ness, and even, honestly, the length. I would have to go out on a limb and say this is a classic. Whereas previous House of the Dead entries were unintentionally funny - this one realizes what it is, and runs with it. And not just in one category, but with them all - and it comes together into some of the most fun hours I've spent in front of a TV screen.
That said - yes, it's a tad repetitive (it's a light-gun style game, what do you want?), it isn't very challenging, and it's extremely short. So you really don't get a whole lot for your money. HOWEVER, well, I don't feel guilty because it's their own damned policy, but I got it used, and if you finish a Gamestop used game within 7 days (or, you know, just don't like it), you can swap it in, no harm, no foul. And I got this game, well, essentially yesterday. So really I got to play it for free, because I'm taking it back tomorrow to try out, probably, Madworld. Eh, I did that with Mirror's Edge too. They don't mind.
But...
This is also the perfect sort of fun game to just keep around, because it's easy to get into, and has a co-op mode, and, you know, is just brilliant and funny. So it's the sort of game you don't mind playing over and over - and especially if you have friends come over. So you could think of it as almost an adult party-game. Even non-players just watching are bound to be amused.
But it IS raunchy. REALLY raunchy. So beware that.
But it's worth a buy, even at its length (I almost don't want to part with it, but I chew through games like Faye Dunnaway through scenery). And it's the perfect rental.
And it's not like people who like to, you know, get down with their inner badass, have many other places to turn on the Wii, lets be honest now. So give it a whirl, eh?
AND THE MUSIC! So good.
