I require your opinion on something wondrously fantastic. It's quite urgent and if you could report to my room in... oh, give or take an hour, that would be marvelous.

[A pause!]So, what does everyone want from Saint Nicolas ( Read more... )

[He blinks, then sombers abruptly, but only for the barest moment.

He hopes Snape dies a painful death, so he can have Lily back again. Or, maybe, that things should be as they were, as they're supposed to be.

Instead, James grins a little.]

To play a proper game of Quidditch in this place.

Well, fourteen people, for starters, two bludgers, a quaffle, and a golden snitch! And fourteen broomsticks. Three hoops... ah, I do believe that's it.

That might be hard to get here... What are those?

A Quaffle is a large red ball, meant for scoring through the three hoops. Bludgers are made out of iron and there are two of them -- they try to knock you off your broomstick. And the Golden Snitch is something the Seeker catches -- whoever catches that gets 150 points for their team and the game ends.

Ah but you could magic other things into them, right? Like the marbles Harry made from stones.

Mmm, for the Quaffle and Bludgers, yeah, but the Snitch is a tricky piece of magic.

Why's that?

A Snitch has a flesh memory. The moment it's caught, it doesn't work the same anymore. It only responds to the person who first touched it.

That's really neat. You can definitely tell what happened. You don't need a referee, right?

Depends on how dirty the other team plays.

Sports shouldn't be played dirty.

That's how the majority of Quidditch matches are played.
