Okay, so whoa. I'm still reeling from the latest episode. I have been given Chase backstory and new current canon in such huge heaps that my brain is working to slot it all where it wants to go. The thing is, this is clearly just the start of a whole new bunch of issues for Chase, and therefore a whole new bunch of canon which is going to include splitting from Cameron due to Jennifer Morrison departing from the show.
Right now, no one knows what is around the corner for Chase. We don't know how he is going to react to what he did, let alone anyone else. We haven't even seen House's reaction to it yet, and as we all know (from the title of the show), how House reacts to it is going to seal the deal. The only things I do know from reading spoilers is that Chase remains on House's team for the moment, and he breaks up with Cameron. In fact, Cameron's last episode will be 6x09. Between now and then, obviously Chase is going to go to Hell and back (and considering his background, he might literally have himself destined for the depths of Hell considering he just willingly took someone's life).
At this point, I have decided that I will most definitely be writing canon prompts as the episodes progress. My Chase muse is screaming in my head right now for attention, and I will address that after I re-watch the episode a few times to pick up more on his facial expressions, actions, etc. because these have always been a prominent source for me in writing Chase as a muse. He is one person who's appearance and non-verbal actions say a lot about how he is reacting to a situation. So, despite losing his voice somewhat over the past couple of seasons, it has just returned with a vengeance in the course of one episode. Whatever happens, Chase is going to have prominent plots this Season, and I have waited extremely patiently for this day to come.
The question is, will I incorporate any of this new canon into his main RP verse with Rogue? The answer at this point just has to be 'maybe'. In our RP verse, we've just had Chase go through quite the trauma, but he is now back on his feet and happy with his wife and new baby daughter. I like having this outlet and verse beyond the show and I'm not sure I want to breach it with the dramatically serious and dark turn Chase's canon has just taken. I have been able to filter in small pieces of canon over the time (ie, Kutner's death) but because they married Chase off to Cameron in the show and I haven't ever been able to come to the ship, much canon incorporation wasn't all that desirable. And to be blatantly honest and cut to the 'chase' (pun intended), Chase hasn't actually HAD much canon worth taking the time to retcon or filter into his RP verse.
That has changed, BUT, the new canon!Chase is unlikely to be the happy, cheeky lad he has been in prior seasons. In fact, I think he's going to travel a dark road. Right now, I think I might just stick to exploring that in his canon verse and once the plot eases out and we know what the lay of the land is after he separates from Cameron and processes what he did, I might consider weaving some of his new canon into his RP verse.
Basically to sum up, I'm proud of my boy, to say the very least. Of course what he did, a lot will think is wrong, unethical, murder, etc. but he killed one person to save countless others and he did what he thought was right. In fact, the whole episode was so true to his character that I nearly fell out of my seat in shock after the pussy-whipped weakling he had become in the last two seasons. Chase has always stuck to what he believes is right. He risked his med licence in Season 2 to allow a family to sue him to get money, he kissed a 9 year old dying patient because she didn't want to die witout being kissed, he has indicated his belief in euthanasia with House in Season 3, and now, he took a road that he thought was right, but as he said at the end of the episode, he knows it's not going to come without consequences. It's what those consequences are that we'll be itching to find out.
So, that's pretty much it, even if I rambled. I'm shocked, excited, hopeful, and sad all at the same time. All very much leads to a newly refreshed muse voice and canon to explore.
Welcome back, Chase.
Over and out.
