As I said before, "Ding ding ding!" I've always had a 'thing' about the pool house -- it never made sense to me that they'd put someone in a building with so many glass walls/doors in California with all its earthquakes. It's not a matter of 'if' they'll suffer a quake -- it's 'when' and 'how severe'.
If they hadn't shown us exactly how the pool house exploded, with glass flying everywhere like daggers, the argument might be made that the structure was made of tempered glass, and the whole structure was reinforced in some way to make it safer than it appeared. However, that argument is impossible, because canon shows us exactly how it fared in an earthquake.
It was a chilling scene, watching the glass fly across the patio. If Ryan had been home, we might have had a different, darker story...
We both have our sensitive spots, and the pool house is certainly one of mine. It's unconscionable that the Cohens left Ryan out there, where he was always at risk.
Ergo, bring on the dark!
Many thanks for reading... cheers!

You're absolutely correct that the pool house went down like it was made of nothing, and that Ryan surely would have been killed in canon.
