This deserves a lot more attention than I can give it right now, chase, since I'm leaving in an hour for the airport. But I was so happy to see a new chapter posted that I had to skim it at least. Your thumbnail descriptions of Ryan's relationship with his Atwood family are wonderful, especially Trey, and I really love the whole conversation about Kirsten: so wary, so circumspect and so revealing, both in what was said and what was unsaid--and, for that matter, in Megan's reactions to everything Ryan told her. By the way, your physical descriptions of the characters were great. It's hard when they're in a car and movement is restricted, but you provided details, little nuanced moments, that really let us see them and get a sense of how they were feeling. I particularly liked these lines:

He ducks his head as he speaks those words, keeping it just high enough to see the road through feathered eyelashes.

Megan blinks her eyes open, immediately noting his tensed shoulders and determined focus on the road ahead of them.

She sees him glance sideways at her, and hears him exhale softly.

Turning around, she checks in on Ryan. He’s focused on the road again, his slouched posture more relaxed than it’s been since they started talking about the pool house. It’s like he’s checked out of that conversation, okay with where they left it.

That's sensitive, lovely writing.

So now Sam wants to inspect the pool house, hmm? Interesting. I wonder how Kirsten will respond to that, no matter how diplomatic Sam will be . . .
