I just finished and I'm still at the gaping like a fish stage...

I was totally jaw-on-floor, complete with convulsive sobbing that scared the shit out of my Simon kitty (he vacated my lap and went to a safer location).

I'm still shocked -- both by what happened and how devastated I am.

I'm still crushed. I didn't see it coming, either... until he listend to Rita's voicemail. This is so.... terrible. I wasn't Rita's biggest fan, but I liked the relationship she had with Dexter. More thoughts soon.

It truly affected me -- my brain shock was in overdrive and I barely slept last night. Damn, between this and FNL, TV is raking me over the coals.

I just watched it, and damn! even though I did spend quite a bit of time worrying that Trinity would go after Rita and the kids....it was such a difficult thing to absorb. and reprising the death of Laura Moser like that - remember how in Season One Dexter nearly fainted in the hotel room filled with blood? - but this time he picked up his son and carried him out. it will take a while for all the implications to sink in, but this was horrible. and wonderful. and i can't wait for next season!

good luck on your finals, Chasa!!!! xoxo

Yeah, they did a great job of making the audience worry that Trinity would go after them, then they so neatly squared away that issue in the finale that I put it aside and just focused in on Dexter and Trinity's showdown. It was very well done and led to a moment that was, as you said, TRULY horrible (and wonderful in how it completely resets the board...upends it, more like). I haven't felt that much real horror while watching Dexter (I know others do, but for whatever reason, it's just not how I experience the show), but this shook me. Kudos to 'em.

Thanks for the luck! Another class down...whew. Relieved and tired :-) Lots of happy holiday wishes heading out to you!
