Behold! the latest moronic letter to the Greenville News' editor of opinions. 'Tis a shame s/he didn't edit this out of print.... (By the way, Bob Nestor is a recurring local voice of right-wing irrationality... I can't say whether he writes his own letters or merely forwards the work of others.)
Katrina was tool of God's judgment
New Orleans' 34th Southern Decadence Celebration was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Aug. 31, and run through Labor Day, Sept. 5. This event has been welcomed with arms wide open by city officials, including Mayor C. Ray Nagin and his two predecessors, because of the millions of dollars it brings into the city's coffers.
This year more than 100,000 gays and lesbians from throughout the country were expected to participate in an event that for more than three decades has been characterized by public acts of sexual perversion, nudity, drunkenness, prostitution, crimes against property, and gambling.
Could it be that a holy God in Heaven said, "That's enough! I'm not going to tolerate this debauchery any longer"? As in the days of Noah when the earth was filled with sin and violence and God used water to let the curtain down on a society that virtually thumbed its nose at him, did he use the winds and water of Hurricane Katrina to obliterate a city whose leadership had persisted in promoting unrighteousness?
Not only is the God of Heaven a God of love, but he is also a God of judgment. He is not willing that any should perish, but when men persist in defying his word, the consequences are ultimately fatal.
"Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." (Proverbs 14:34)
