So I've decided not to post the recipe for the cake, as I am planning on entering it into a competition, however, if you PROMISE not to share it or compete with it yourself, I will give you the recipe. Just send me a message. What I can tell you is this: To get the mountainous look, put your first layer down after having leveled the top, then add a second layer that has been cut diagonally. If there is a gap on one side, fill it with bits torn from the part that you cut off to level the first layer. Finally, add the remaining cake bit that is also diagonal, in whichever orientation you chose. The placement of a couple of horizontal toothpicks should alleviate the chance of random mass wasting events (slippage). Of course, don't forget to add some filling or frosting between each layer as well. I used a meringue-based butter cream as it makes good mortar and I like all that yummy fat in my frosting!
